Introduction to Insight Dialogue: A Four-Week Class Series

Wednesdays, Feb. 4 - Mar. 4, 7:00-8:30PM EST

On Zoom, Registration Required (See Below)

Insight Dialogue is an interpersonal Dhamma practice that brings together meditation, the Buddha’s teachings, and human relatedness. Through mindful speaking and listening with partners, the practice supports insight into the causes of human suffering and the possibility of release.

During this online course, we will practice with the six guidelines of Insight Dialogue to cultivate collective freedom from suffering.

Each 90-minute session will include:

  • Silent meditation

  • Instruction on the Insight Dialogue guidelines

  • Contemplative practice in breakout rooms with meditation partners

Participants will also be offered one optional 15-minute one-on-one practice meeting with Sue.

In Insight Dialogue, we can see things together that we often cannot see on our own in individual practice. By harnessing the power of relationship, the practice amplifies mindfulness and concentration, accelerating the arising of insight. Insight Dialogue becomes a channel through which the wisdom of the Dhamma enters the heart and mind in an immediate, embodied way—directly applicable to daily life.

Readings from Gregory Kramer’s book, Insight Dialogue: The Interpersonal Path to Freedom, are recommended to provide helpful context for the experiential practices.

Meet the Teacher:

Sue Brown has practiced Insight Dialogue since 2006 and taught it since 2011, co-leading a weekly sangha and supporting residential retreats. Her background as an attorney and mediator informs her deep relational approach.Over the years, she has included in her offerings many core Buddhist teachings, as she finds the relational nature of ID practice brings the teachings to life and enables fresh understanding. Sue has been co-leading a weekly online group for those with previous ID experience since 2011. She also co-created a racial awareness curriculum for white-identified people that is grounded in ID practice and continues to co-lead monthly practice groups for those who have participated in the course. Sue lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.
