Brahmaviharas:

The Four Faces of Love

Mondays, March 9 - April 6, 6:00 - 7:15PM EST

Virtual, Registration Required (See Below)

The four heart qualities, or brahma-viharas, are kindness, compassion, equanimity, and joy. They are faces – or expressions - of the deep potential for love that is our birth-right as humans. For millennia, people have practiced cultivating these beautiful qualities which are central to the Buddha’s teachings on liberation.

The faces of love grow out of our mindfulness meditation practice. At the same time, they are the practice. Being present, or fully and kindly aware of the experience in our minds, bodies and hearts, nurtures the heart qualities. Conversely, growing the heart’s capacities nurtures presence. Like mindfulness meditation, the heart practices deepen concentration and insight. When they are practiced regularly, they lead to contentment and satisfaction.

Sessions will include:

  • Guided meditations

  • Dharma talks

  • Discussions and exercises

The emphasis is on awareness of what blocks the heart, and on making space to cultivate these aspects of love.

There will be recordings sent out after each session of the guided meditation and talk.

This event is offered on a dana basis - we suggest a donation of $125 for all five sessions ($25 per class).  A reduced scholarship rate is also available. 90% of proceeds go towards compensating our teachers for time spent creating the session materials, and delivering the series.

This ticket is for all five sessions; a Zoom link will be sent to you prior to the first session. This is not a drop-in class, please be sure you can attend at least four of the five sessions upon registering to cultivate community.

Note: no one will be turned away for financial means. Please email info@living-mindfully.org for a full scholarship.

Meet the Teachers

Corina Urdaneta

Corina Urdaneta is a Venezuelan-born mindfulness meditation and yoga teacher who brings a deeply compassionate, body-centered approach to practice. Her meditation journey began over 30 years ago through Zen, as a way to meet profound grief, and later evolved into Mindfulness Meditation—shaped by personal healing, scientific research, and the Theravada/Insight tradition, inspired by Western teachers such as Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, James Baraz, and Gil Fronsdal.

Since 2020, Corina has led a weekly mindfulness meditation session through The Center for Mindful Living in Washington, DC, and co-facilitates the Latinx Sangha Café con

Leche through the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She is currently enrolled in Gil Fronsdal’s Dharma Leader Training (2024–2026), and is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher MMTCP, 2021 and Certified Awakening Joy Teacher (2021).

Corina also grew up with yoga as a daily family practice and has taught yoga internationally in Spanish and English. An E-RYT 500, trained at Kripalu and in Dharamshala, India, she now specializes in yoga for seniors—supporting strength, graceful aging, and inner ease.

Catherine Flanagan

Catherine Flanagan teaches the mindfulness meditation and the dharma to share practices with others that lead to insight and freedom. Gil Fronsdal, Christine Feldman and Kristin Neff are primary influences. She graduated from the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and completed the Mindful Self-Compassion training of Kristin Neff and Chris Germer.

She emphasizes the body as a primary teacher of both suffering and of the beautiful qualities that arise when we release what causes of suffering.

Sangha (spiritual community) is an abiding joy and support for Catherine. She serves on CML’s leadership team, facilitates discussion following Tara Brach’s Wednesday Night Meditation classes, and teaches meditation to incarcerated and recently returning citizens with Insight on the Inside, a nonprofit.

Catherine’s legal career includes enforcing federal voting and environmental laws and representing domestic violence survivors. She engages in political activism to promote civil rights, economic justice and a sustainable planet.
